Happy Friday Football Families,
San Tan Charter School has seen a great deal of success over the past few years with regards to both tackle and flag football and we continue to be proud of all the opportunities that our boys have been given with regards to all state teams and college scholarships. Next year will see some significant changes to our tackle program as we move from our current 8-man to 11-man as well as the addition of our new football stadium; always exciting times to be a Roadrunner!
As we move into our next chapter I would like to thank Coach John Lokey for leading our Varsity tackle program over the past two years. Coach Lokey and I have decided to move in a different direction for San Tan and he will be stepping down as head coach to explore other opportunities. Given that he is now a State Champion Varsity head coach I am sure that we will see him again on the other side of the ball. Thank you coach and best of luck.
Coach Jay Gonzales will be shifting his focus fulltime to our two-time State Championship Basketball team, did you know that Coach Jay is 47-1 as a Varsity Basketball coach. Coach will be working with our administrative team as we transition and find those individuals that will help us continue to provide a top notch flag program. San Tan believes that we can achieve this by taking the same approach as we have for our other major programs and find someone that can oversee the program from all levels, just like we have done with Coach Jay and basketball.
Over the past few months I have been working with my team to put together the best football coaching staff in the East Valley if not the State of Arizona. I am happy to announce that Super Bowl XLI Champion Darrell Reid will be our Varsity Tackle Head Coach as well as oversee all Football Operations for the upcoming school year. In addition, Coach Walker will be returning to our staff to provide consistency and background knowledge of our Championship team. Coach Brian Echols and Coach Terry Jackson will be assisting, rounding out our foundational coaching team. Over the next few months we will be adding additional coaches for both tackle and flag. However, I wanted to provide to you our core coaching staff for the fall.
Our coaching staff will be out at Spring workouts this Saturday, please plan on stopping by to say hi. If you have not yet had your boy out to participate in these Saturday camps, now would be the time to start as it is open to all flag and tackle football boys.
San Tan Football will be hosting Spring workouts on Saturdays at the school field.
Please have your athlete to the school field at 10:30; the workouts will conclude at 1:30.
The training will contain activities that build character, motivation, leadership, along with speed and agility, including weights and positional training. These workouts are highly recommended for the upcoming season as we continue building excellence as a Student-Athlete on and off the field. We hold high expectations recognizing the significant role the student athlete will have in this program, next year and years to come. Athletes will need to bring both their regular shoes and cleats to these workouts along with water.
We have greatness ahead of us as we move, “One Step Closer”.
