Sippel’s Spotlight 5/22

All School ½ Day of School Friday, May 25th

What an amazing week we have had, with awards ceremonies, music concerts, and great activities for the kiddos. As we continue our final week of school, we are busy with promotions and graduations. Finally, you should be receiving or already have received an email from your kiddos teacher for the upcoming parent/teacher conferences.

Our teachers will be holding parent teacher conference the week after school is out. On Thursday, May 30th our staff will be doing late night conferences. We are wanting to provide a dinner to our teachers during this time. We are asking for donations of lasagna, salad, bread, butter, olive oils, and dessert treats to help feed the teachers. If you would like to help support, we ask that all items are dropped off to the front office by 4 PM and are ready to go (cooked).

It’s that time of year again! In preparation for summer time, we are having our annual BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE Scholastic Book Fair. Last year, we were able to sell almost $10,000 worth of books at half the price. That means more books in the hands of our students over the summer break.

San Tan Charter School is committed to keeping our students safe. Since the beginning of this year, we’ve been seeking out ways to make our campus more secure. To accomplish this, we are starting a campaign to raise funds to install security systems on both the Power and Recker campuses for the 2018-2019 school year.

This system is comprised of three parts:
• First, we will install a visitor screening system at the front desks called LobbyGuard. Learn more.
• Second, we will install impact/shatter-resistant 3M Safety and Security Window Film on all the windows on campus.  Learn more.
• Lastly, we will install 16 new surveillance cameras to cover entrances and outdoor common areas which will log multiple days of activity.

Earlier this year, STCS made commitments of almost $8,000 towards this system. This includes the LobbyGuard system as well as blackout curtains for all the classroom door windows.

STCS isn’t provided with sufficient state and federal funding to meet our security goals, so we’re asking our community to contribute the remaining $40,000 towards the 3M Safety Window Film and the surveillance cameras.
For just $47 per student, this project will be fully funded.
Thank you for your donation in this initiative to keep our students safe.

Summer School Enrollment: San Tan Charter School will be offering an elementary summer program filled with exciting activities that take your students to outer space and beyond. Our focus will be on Space Science and Technology. Our summer school program will offer students the opportunity to experience various scientific discoveries through video, dance, art, storytelling, food, sports, math, science, history and other hands on activities. Each week we take different adventures to explore space travel and life on other planets:

Weeks 1-2 (June 4th – 15th): Important Space Scientists & the History of Space Travel

Weeks 3-4 (June 18th – 29th): Planet Earth, Moon, & Sun

Weeks 5 (July 2nd – 6th): Closed

Weeks 6-7 (July 9th – 20th) Student Choice Four Planets, History of NASA, Space Station

Weeks 8-9 (July 23rd – Aug 3rd): Create Your Own World (Field Trip to the Arizona Challenger Space Center TBD)

Students are free to sign-up for all or part of the program and are expected to bring their own lunch and snacks each day (no snacks are needed for Cooks in the Kitchen on Mondays).

If you need to work out payment options for summer school, please indicate this on your enrollment form, we would be happy to work with you. If you are choosing to do the summer school, please complete the enrollment form and return with the Learning Extension Fee.

If your kiddos are looking for something to get the blood pumping this summer, consider one of our summer sports camps. Attached is a list of camps as well as their days and times. You can call the school office and we can complete the form for you or you can complete the form and drop it off.

In Veterinary Science Basics, visiting live animals will ensure that your student will have fun while learning the foundations of veterinary medicine.  Medical terminology, animal anatomy and physiology and the essentials of pet care are a few of the subjects covered in this cross-curriculum course. Veterinary Science Basics is guaranteed to challenge your student to use critical thinking skills, previous knowledge and experiences, thus keeping your student an engaged and active participant. Who knew learning could be this fun? Open to students in 4th through 6th grade with an enrollment of at least 10 students.
