Jay GonzalesHigh School Varsity Head Coach

In just his first year as the Varsity Head Coach, Jay Gonzales led his boys to a 14 – 1 season and won the D1 State Championship. Now in his third year coaching at San Tan Charter School he oversees all aspects of the very popular basketball program. His love for the game started during his sophomore year at Marcos De Niza High School; over the years he has played up to a short semi-pro career and he is very thankful for the impact basketball had on his life. He continues to be privileged to be part of the San Tan Roadrunner family as his heart is in coaching and mentoring youth in the game he loves. Go ROADRUNNERS!

Derek FreemanJunior High Team 1 Head Coach – High School Varsity Head Coach 

Born and raised in Philadelphia PA, Coach Freeman graduated from the University of New Mexico Highlands with a Masters in Sports Administration & a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology. As a former Member of the NMHU Cowboys; they set an NCAA record in 2008 for Biggest Program Turnaround and qualified for the NCAA Tournament 2008-2009. Coach Freeman was an excellent Shotblocker, placing 2nd in the conference during his Junior & Senior seasons. Coach Freeman is former Air Force player and was selected to the All Air Force Select Teams in 2006 & 2007. He and his wife Janelle are parents of two Jazmyne and DJ.

 

Jason GremillionJV High School Head Coach

Coach Gremillion is entering his 1st season coaching at San Tan Charter School. Coach Gremillion previously coached at Gilbert and Higley High School for six years and coaches in a number of youth leagues around the East Valley. This is his 8th year teaching and his 1st year at San Tan Charter School where he teachers Science.

Coach Gremillion was born and raised in Stockton, California and graduated from Brookside Christian High School. After high, he attended Alabama State University and Graduated with a B.S. in Special Education. After graduation from ASU, lived in Alabama, Texas, and finally landed in Arizona to pursue his teaching and coaching career.

Coach Gremillion currently lives in Mesa with his wife Courtney and two boys Corey and Jason, both who attend San Tan.

Coach Robert Mävis is in his second year coaching at San Tan School. He continues to be privileged to be part of the San Tan Roadrunner family. His passion for the game of basketball started at the young age of 12 in the small town of Maricopa Az. Through the years he has been a student and a player of the game. After playing he began learning the different styles of the game. He is very thankful for the impact basketball has had on his life. The passion that he has lives deeply in his family roots to help coach and mentor youth in the game of basketball and the game of life. He has coached for over 15 years and has enjoyed every minute of it. Go ROADRUNNERS!

 

Adam WintersJunior High Team 2 Head Coach

Coach Adam Winters is in his sixth year of teaching, and second year of coaching, taking his team to a Division Championship. Coach Winters has coached JV baseball and basketball for five years as both an assistant coach, and head coach. His goal is to teach what he has learned through playing sports: a hard work ethic, teamwork, and respect for others.
