San Tan Charter School has seen a great deal of success over the past few years with regards to both tackle and flag football and we continue to be proud of all the opportunities that our boys have been given with regards to all state teams and college scholarships. Next year will see some significant changes to our tackle program as we move from our current 8-man to 11-man as well as the addition of our new football stadium; always exciting times to be a Roadrunner!
Over the past few months I have been working with my team to put together the best football coaching staff in the East Valley if not the State of Arizona. I am happy to announce that Super Bowl XLI Champion Darrell Reid will be our Varsity Tackle Head Coach as well as oversee all Football Operations for the upcoming school year. In addition, Coach Walker will be returning to our staff to provide consistency and background knowledge of our Championship team. Coach Brian Echols and Coach Terry Jackson will be assisting, rounding out our foundational coaching team.
Head Coach – Darrell Reid
Coach Reid played college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2000-2004, where he was a four-year starter. He arrived at Minnesota as a linebacker, but was switched to defensive tackle in 2001. During his junior season, he led the team with 5.5 sacks. Reid switched to defensive end in 2004 and again led Minnesota in sacks with 7.5.
Coach Reid was signed as by the Colts, and spent time as a defensive tackle and fullback in goal line situations, as well as special teams. Reid won Super Bowl XLI with the Colts in 2007. After playing for the Colts Reid was signed by the Denver Broncos in 2009 where he played out the remainder of his career.
